In Module 1, the Imagineerz-in-training embark on an architectural adventure, crafting a city resilient enough to endure the escapades of its superhero inhabitants. Drawing on fundamental architectural concepts, students are challenged to design, prototype, and test various structures, including bridges and towers, ensuring these can withstand super strength and short tempers. Through this process, they’ll not only encounter design thinking methods but also refine their proficiency in the Imagineerz i-Can! problem-solving technique. This journey into urban design encourages students to think like engineers and architects, envisioning a cityscape that can cope with the extraordinary demands of superhero activities, from high-speed pursuits to epic battles.
Aligning with the module’s SEL objectives, students will internalize a growth mindset, learning to approach challenges with innovative solutions and resilience. By employing design thinking and strategies like Inhale-Calm Down-Adapt-Now Try (ICAN), they’re equipped to reset after setbacks and take positive action to navigate obstacles creatively. On the STEM front, the module focuses on architectural techniques essential for creating a superhero-proof city. Concepts such as symmetry for balance, trusses to enhance strength, and wide bases to enable soaring skyscrapers are key to their designs.
